Mother's Day
The May breeze brings us the gentlest of days—Mother's Day. As this warm and loving holiday approaches, our primary LETs and SETs have been working together to help students prepare. Across all five grade levels, our PS students found their own ways to express gratitude to their mothers, pouring their purest feelings into every small gesture.
五月暖风徐徐,在充满爱与温暖的母亲节到来之际,小学部班主任与学科老师携手,组织同学们用自己的方式,准备盛满真挚心意的礼物,向妈妈倾情诉说感恩与爱意。
The G1 students began with a lighthearted quiz to gently explore their mothers' world. Questions like: Where does Mom like to go on weekends? What's her favorite color? What does she say most often? When does she feel proud of me? The children thought carefully and wrote their answers on whiteboards. Those who couldn't think of anything yet said they would secretly observe at home! In class, the students also discussed the idea that "being a mother takes a lot of courage." In their innocent yet sincere words, they shared how their mothers' daily efforts, care, and companionship are all expressions of courage and gentleness. They also came up with small ways to show love: a big hug, a warm word, a helping hand—all special gifts for Mom. Finally, each child made their own Mother's Day "love voucher," turning love into small, tangible surprises. Some wrote "a super big hug," some invited their moms on an "adventure to my secret base," and others promised "unlimited help vouchers."
一年级学生在轻松有趣的“小测试”中走进妈妈的内心世界。妈妈周末**去往何处、偏爱哪种颜色、日常常挂嘴边的话语、何时会为自己感到骄傲…… 一个个贴近生活的小问题,引得孩子们认真思索,认真将答案写在白板上。有同学一时答不上来,也主动表示,回家后要细心观察、用心了解妈妈!课堂上,同学们纷纷畅谈感悟,由衷感慨:“做一位妈妈,需要很多很多的勇气。”孩子们用自己稚嫩却真诚的语言说出心中感受,明白妈妈日复一日的付出、悉心的照料与长久的陪伴,皆是温柔而勇敢的守护。大家也分享了许多表达爱与感谢的方式,例如一个大大的拥抱、一句暖暖的话语、一次主动的帮忙,都是送给妈妈的特别礼物。最后,大家还亲手制作了母亲节“爱心兑换券”,把爱变成可以“兑现”的小惊喜。有同学写下“超级大抱抱”,有人邀约妈妈探秘自己的小天地,还有同学制作了“无限帮忙兑换卷”。
The G2 activities took place during Chinese class. The LETs and Chinese SETs worked together to help the children understand the origins of Mother's Day, share what they've noticed about their mothers, and discuss simple ways to show gratitude in daily life. Building on this, the children created a Mother's Day picture book for their class. Using paintbrushes and words, they imagined their mothers as brave night walkers, guiding lighthouses, warm blankets—each whimsical metaphor revealed love, dependence, and gratitude. Their rich imagination and sincere emotions made every page unique and touching. This activity not only deepened their understanding of maternal love but also taught them to say "thank you, Mom" through writing and drawing in the warmest way.
二年级母亲节主题活动在中文课堂温情开展。中文老师与班主任携手带领孩子们了解母亲节的由来,分享自己对妈妈的日常观察,共同探讨生活中表达感恩的点滴小事。各班学生还制作了一本班级母亲节绘本,他们用画笔和文字把妈妈描绘成勇敢的夜行侠、指引方向的灯塔、温暖的被子……一个个充满童趣的比喻,藏着他们对妈妈的爱、依赖与感谢。灵动的想象搭配真挚的情感,让绘本的每一页都格外温暖动人。此次活动不仅加深了大家对母爱的理解与体悟,更让同学们在书写与绘画中学会以温柔细腻的方式,向母亲由衷道一声:“谢谢您,妈妈” 。
Our G3 students transformed into little artists, using their nimble hands to prepare unique bouquet cards for their beloved mothers. Bright clay was kneaded, flattened, and shaped into small flowers that would never fade. Every petal was carefully crafted, and every stroke of the pen held unspoken love for Mom.
三年级同学则化身“小小艺术家”,用自己灵巧的双手,为**的妈妈准备了****的花束贺卡。鲜亮的粘土被揉捏、压平、塑形,变成了一朵朵永不凋谢的小花。孩子们用心雕琢的每一片花瓣,落下的每一道笔触,都饱含着对母亲道不尽的深情与爱意。
In G4 art class, our students became "designers of love." They picked up watercolors and gently spread colors representing their mothers onto heart-shaped cards. They cut the cards into different forms—hearts, little houses—each a small haven of gratitude. Some drew carnations that would never wither; others drew heartfelt hugs. Every stroke was a sincere expression of love. After finishing, the children wrote their thanks on the cards. The words they usually kept hidden in their schoolbags, in daily reminders and care, or left unspoken—all came to life on paper.
四年级学生在美术课堂成为“爱的设计师”。他们拿起水彩笔,在心形贺卡上细细铺染专属妈妈的温柔色彩,还将卡片剪裁成爱心、小屋等别致造型,每一款都是承载感恩的“小小港湾”。有同学画出一朵永不凋谢的康乃馨,有同学画了一个暖心拥抱,一笔一划都是对妈妈最真诚的表达。画完后,大家提笔写下心中谢意,那些藏在日常叮嘱里的牵挂、默默陪伴中的温情,还有想对妈妈说的悄悄话,都悉数落笔纸间,化作最动人的深情寄语。
Also in Art class, G5 students poured their gratitude into their brushes, letting colors flow from their hearts. Each hand-drawn Mother's Day card was a poem dedicated to their mothers. Tender lines outlined "I love you," and vibrant colors bloomed with "Thank you." This was not just a craft activity but also a lesson in love. May this handmade surprise be the warmest light for mothers on this special day.
同样是在美术课上,五年级同学以色彩蕴心意,以笔墨凝感恩。每一张亲手绘制的母亲节贺卡,都是献给妈妈的诗篇。稚嫩的线条勾勒出“我爱你”,鲜艳的色彩盛放着“谢谢你”。这不仅是一次手工创作,更是一场爱的教育。愿这份亲手制作的惊喜,成为妈妈心中温暖的记忆。
Every handwritten card, every handmade craft, every painted drawing was carefully decorated and folded—like love letters sent from childhood. We believe that when mothers open these gifts, they will read something far more precious than words.

On April 30th, the auditorium was alive with energy as the Middle School hosted the BASIS Got Talent showcase. It was a spectacular evening that brought our community together to celebrate our students' incredible talents.

From the 21 acts selected during auditions, ranging from high-energy dance routines to soulful vocal and instrumental performances, the dedication and hard work of our middle school performers were on full display. A huge shoutout to all the students who participated for the many hours of practice they put in! Thanks to everyone who came out to cheer them on and wrap up April on such a high note.

Before the AP exams draw near, something beautiful has been unfolding in the 5th-floor atrium of our high school. Our students and teachers have come together to create a “Wall of Encouragement”—pressing their painted palms onto the canvas and scribbling words of courage.
AP考试前夕,我校高中师生在五楼中庭打造了一面承载着美好祝福的“鼓励之墙”,大家将涂满颜料的手掌印在画布上,并认真写下鼓励的话语。
But the warmth didn’t stop there. HS and MS teachers gathered warm wishes from our younger students—sweet, sincere blessings from little brothers and sisters to their seniors stepping onto the exam stage. And just when our exam-takers thought the surprises were over, they returned to their lockers to find an extra touch of love: thoughtful motivational stickers and lollipops placed by their teachers. A small gift, yes—but one wrapped in immense warmth. A whispered reminder that they are seen, supported, and deeply cherished, even in the most stressful of days.
暖意不止于此。初高中老师们还贴心收集了低年级学弟学妹们的暖心寄语。字字真诚、句句温情,皆是大家对即将奔赴考场的学长学姐最真挚的祝福。考生们走到自己的储物柜前,又收获了一份专属温情。高中教学管理团队的老师们精心准备了励志贴纸和棒棒糖,以小小礼物承载满满心意,让紧张备考的同学们真切感受到温暖与支持。
Meanwhile, the first week of exams has gone smoothly, thanks to the seamless collaboration of the Academic Office, High School Office, IT Department, and our dedicated administrative and logistics teams. The transition from Kindergarten to Primary School is more than just moving up a grade. It's a gentle leap in a child's psychological, behavioral, and social development — one that requires adaptation and builds confidence. It's worth noting that this transition isn't limited to our own kindergarten and first grade. It also includes in-depth exchanges with the children from BKNS, allowing a warm connection to reach beyond school walls and benefit even more children.

A Two-Way Journey Begins with Teachers Visiting Each Other

A truly smooth transition is built on open communication. Recently, teachers from BKNS and our G1 took part in a cross-campus classroom observation and exchange. G1 teachers visited BKNS to observe the pace, expression, and daily routines of the K children. In return, the Kindergarten teachers visited G1 on our campus to experience the teaching structure and classroom atmosphere of primary school.
好的衔接始于看得见的交流。近期,我校一年级老师与南山贝赛思幼儿园K年级的老师们开启了一场跨校区的课堂观摩交流。一年级老师走进幼儿园,观察K年级孩子的学习节奏、表达方式与课堂常规;幼儿园老师则来到我校,感受小学的教学结构与课堂氛围。
No longer were teachers simply "teaching their own classes" — they began to truly understand each other's goals. G1 teachers learned "where the children came from," which allowed them to be gentler in their teaching approach. BKNS teachers understood "where the children are going," enabling them to build a more targeted foundation. This was more than just a visit, it was also a dialogue between educational philosophies and an integration of teaching methods.
老师们不是“各教各的”,而是深入了解彼此的阶段目标。一年级老师知道孩子“从哪里来”,便能更温柔地承接;K年级老师清楚孩子“要去哪里”,也能更有方向地铺垫。这不是一次简单的“串门”,而是教育理念的对话与教学方法的共融。

During the school visit day, our G1 students were enthusiastic little hosts, proudly introducing their classrooms, daily schedules, and extracurricular activities. Their earnest faces showed both leadership and companionship. When BKNS students see and experience the order and excitement of primary school life firsthand, the "unknown" turns into "anticipation." And that anticipation is the best remedy for the anxieties of growing up.
访校当天,我校一年级学生热情大方地为来访小伙伴介绍了自己的教室、课表和课外活动。那一张张认真的小脸,既是榜样,也是陪伴。当南山幼儿园K年级同学们亲眼看到、亲身体验到小学生活的有序与精彩,心中的“未知”便化作了“期待”。而这份期待,正是化解成长焦虑、从容向前的强大助力。

We strongly believe that the best transition is not about teaching children G1 content ahead of time, but about preparing them with the willingness and confidence to step into G1. Moving forward, we will continue to build this bridge of growth, so that every child moving from kindergarten to G1 can take that step with ease, confidence, and joy.

《人人》演绎存在主义人生哲思
Last week, Everybody by Brandon Jacobs-Jenkins brought existential absurdity to the Black Box stage. This modern, irreverent retelling of the 15th-century play Everyman followed one character, Everybody, who was summoned by Death to find a companion for the journey to the grave. Along the way, Everybody encountered allegorical figures like Friendship, Kinship, Stuff, Mind, Strength, Beauty, and Senses.
上周,我校戏剧课学生将Brandon Jacobs-Jenkins的剧作《人人》(Everybody)带到了黑匣子剧场,以别具一格的方式呈现了存在主义的荒诞意蕴。本剧脱胎于十五世纪经典剧目《人人》(Everyman),经过现代主义视角的大胆改编,讲述了主角 “人人” 受死神召唤,须寻得一位同行者,一起奔赴人生终点的故事。途中,主角相继邂逅了友谊、亲情、财富、思想、力量、美貌、感官等象征性人物。
The twist? Before each performance, five actors drew lots. The one who drew the marked token became Everybody for the entire show. The remaining four actors played all other roles, switching characters rapidly. Friendship, Kinship, Stuff, Mind, Strength, Beauty, and Senses were all assigned by lottery to the remaining Somebodies. That meant no two performances were the same.
本剧**巧思的亮点在于其独特的演出形式。每场开演前,五位演员均以抽签方式分配角色,抽中专属筹码的演员将全程担任主角,其余四人则轮番诠释其余所有人物,在不同身份间快速切换。友谊、亲情、财富、思想、力量、美貌、感官等配角,同样由抽签随机分配。正因如此,每场演出都是****的呈现,没有两场完全相同的演绎。
Performed on a traverse stage to a highly receptive audience, the pure white set evoked purgatory, a waiting room for the doomed. The show, which closed last Friday, was a fantastic showcase of exceptional acting by the Advanced and Capstone Drama class, asking what really mattered in life and how our actions shaped how others perceived us.
该剧布景采用走道式舞台,深入观众的视角更易引发情感共鸣。通体素白的舞台布景营造出虚无的氛围感,仿佛是宿命归途里的等候之所。该剧于上周五圆满落幕,以发人深省的叙事手法探讨人生价值,深刻诠释了个人言行如何塑造他人眼中的自我形象,充分展现了高级戏剧课和顶点戏剧课学生精湛的表演功底。

in K Class
“魔药课堂”探新知
Our theme for Quarter 4 is The Whimsical World of Fantasy. We have spent the first few weeks talking about different fantasy elements such as monsters, settings, and magical creatures. We have now started to focus on magic. We spent time last week thinking about making magic potions. We mixed together many different fantastic ingredients, such as fairy dust, dragon eyes, troll fingers, phoenix feathers, etc. Our goal for this lesson was to focus on writing lists, as well as developing our creativity when thinking about what we would want to be able to do with magic. The students also had to count the amount of each ingredient they used, so that they would be able to write an accurate recipe. This was a great way for us to combine our theme with elements we have been learning in both Maths and English classes.
K年级第四学季的主题是“奇思妙想之国”。前期课堂中,孩子们探索了“神秘异兽、奇幻场景、魔法生灵”等奇幻元素,目前学习重点聚焦于“魔法研究”。上周,同学们围绕魔法药水调配展开创意畅想,构思“仙尘、龙眼珠、巨魔手指、凤凰羽毛”等奇幻原料的搭配组合。本周则着重练习列表式写作,引导同学们创造性思考魔法的妙用。大家还需统计各类“原料”用量,完成“魔法药水配方”撰写。相关课堂主题融合数学统计与英语写作知识,实现了生动有趣的跨学科教学。
